In 2015 a conversation was started between representatives from Austin Counseling Connection and Folds of Honor about how to remedy the issue of 22 US veteran suicides a day. Austin Counseling Connection has an extensive history of working with acute care clients with thoughts of suicide and we are extensively trained in best practices for suicide prevention. Additionally, we are also emerging as an organization that specializes in the treatment and resolution of adverse life experience, or trauma treatment, utilizing EMDR. We researched the barriers to treatment, looked at best practices, and sought specialized training on the treatment of Combat Veterans experiencing PTSD and moral injury. We created a specialzed program to eradicate trauma, create an opportunity for community for veterans, and develop relational skills. Patriot 22 is designed to be a program free of cost to the participants meeting criteria for enrollment. Initially, We are looking to treat a small group of veterans utilizing a combination of EMDR, educational group programming, and process groups. Our hope is to resolve PTSD, provide resources around sleep hygeine, substance use/abuse, conflict resolution, communication skill building, and improved self awareness. Additionally, we are prepared to provide case management services to assist with housing or vocational challenges and overall resource development. We are excited about the opportunity we have to make a difference in the lives of the brave men and women who have served our country. We are a private facility without governmental affiliations or ties. We seek simply to treat the person and restore a sense of peace to their lives and their families. Research looking at PTSD measures and MRI's has shown that the treatment of PTSD in Combat Veterens with EMDR can reduce and even eliminate PTSD as a diagnosis in as few as 8-15 EMDR sessions(Bossini, L, et al. 2007).
